FAQs

How does an Online course work?

  1. Choose a Course & Register Online
Begin by browsing the Institute’s Online Course Catalogue and selecting a course from the list of those being offered. Next, register and pay your course fees Online through our secure registration procedure.

  2. Confirmation & Course Orientation
After you Register, you will receive an email confirmation from Amedco (the company who handles our registrations). This letter will confirm your payment and give details of your class. A few days before your class begins, the Institute will email your Username and Password to use for logging in to your class on the Institute website.

  3. Your Textbook & Course Materials
You will receive your textbook and any other print materials a few days before your class begins. You already have the software you’ll need to participate in an Online class on your computer. You’ll use your email program to communicate with your Instructor and other class participants, and your web browser to access the Online course content and weekly assignments.

  4. The Online Learning Environment
Sometime during the first week of the class, you will Login to your class. From there you will click on Module 1—the curriculum for the first week. As you read the Module, you will receive directions instructing you to click on related course materials, do practice exercises, interact with other participants through the email Forum, and submit thoughts and reflections to your Instructor. All of these activities are designed to enrich your experience of the course and make it an interesting and valuable learning experience for you.

  5. Some Tips for Studying at Home
You will soon discover how easy it is to settle into a relaxing and comfortable routine with Online learning. Each week’s Module will be available to you at any time during that week, and you decide when and where to study. With the exception of assignment deadlines, you set your own pace.

  6. Interact with Your Instructor and the Other Participants
Your Instructor will respond to your weekly assignment by email, and you will interact with your classmates through the Forum. Group discussions in the Forum will lead to further interaction through email, and you may wish to wish to log in once a day to check your email and the Forum for messages. Taking a course Online provides the opportunity to belong to a unique community with other participants from around the country and perhaps from around the world!

  7. Assignments and CE Credits
Each Module includes assignments for enriching your experience of the course. These include various types of exercises, links to auxiliary materials, postings to the Forum, and reflections on your learnings. You determine your level of participation in these experiences. For professionals taking courses for CE Credits, all assignments must be completed each week, along with a final project at the end of the course.

  8. The Institute’s Online and Telephone Support
Each course is taught by an Instructor with significant professional expertise. If you have questions about your course, you can always email your Instructor. Also, representatives at the Institute’s headquarters in San Diego, California, are available to answer questions and can be contacted by phone during weekday business hours (Pacific Time), or any time via email.
